Made it back to Sydney, noticed lots of welsh sounding places between here and newcastle including cardiff and swansea. Am spending my last night with talita, who took me out for a farewell meal to Cronulla (home of last years race riots) although have to say seemed fairly nice place to me, great beach. As we sat on her balcony drinking the wine I brought back from the hunter valley we were entertained by a young lad fiercely breaking then smashing his car through the no right turn sign, freewheeling across the dual carriageway (fortunately no oncoming traffic) and landing in the street next door to Talita's apartment- he then ran off, was all very exciting, although when we went outside to join the gathering crown there were several references to 'Lebs' (apparently a few people thought the boy was Lebanese) and you can certainly feel the underlying racial tension at times like that.
Anyway I leave for Bangkok in a few hours so this is it from Australia, have had a great time, think my highlight was probably the great barrier reef snorkel and catching up with friends new and old which I hadn't expected to do, so thanks to Liz, Talita, jen & Chris, Paul & Colin, Lana and Sarah for looking after me and showing me the sights in their home towns.
Next report from thailand.....
