I know its wrong wrong wrong, but I did it anyway; I paid to go into a 'koala sanctuary' then paid to cwtch a koala (means cuddle for you non-welsh readers!) for 10 seconds and have a photo, will go to zoo-hell for sure, but was soooooo cute couldn't stop myself.
Speaking of zoo's every shopping mall in Australia has a pet shop with puppies in cages, didn't we make that illegal in the 80's? It is most odd (obviously due to the activity undertaken by me today am not passing any judgement....)
Anyway Aussie YHA's like their NZ counterpart have a problem with guests downloading stuff on their PC's so can't add the koala cwtching photo yet but will do as soon as I can, just dont judge me too harshly, I am weak !!
Anyway Cairns is prety darn hot and even more humid, I appear to be sporting an afro as a result, although am intending to get haircut in a couple of days which should help with the frizz ferns in rainforest, cairns
ferns in rainforest, cairns
. Today I took the sky train over the rainforest which was fab. Tomorrow I snorkel at the Great Barrier reef, and am going to Daintree a couple of days after that. Yes have day tripped myself up to my eyeballs.
Had a great christmas by the way, was looked after very well by Jen and Chris, even though I yet again brought the rain with me (why does this keep happenning? Everywhere I go 'there's been a drought for ages' but within 24 hours of my arrival it's peeing down. This happenned in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney too, although still managed to get a swim in the pool in the sunshine on Christmas morning so dont feel too sorry for me!
Anyway am off to go and sort myself out ready for the morning and stare at my koala picture some more, bad bad bad bad bad girl!!!
------
Messed up map a bit, haven't been back to Sydney (yet) but updated Brisbane pin and its gone a bit wrong.
-------
The  Great Barrier reef was awesome (and as you know I rarely use that word, oh dear I've used it how many times in this blog?). Well it was; lovely fish, blue coral (its an animal you know!), underwater viewing, guided snorkelling tours, fast catamaran (spelling!), buffet lunch with Quicksilver tours fish 2

. Although I seem to have paid twice as much as the tours advertised at the hostel, but then did notice that when we were picking up everyone else in the group it was from the more luxurious hotels, with me being the only pick up from a hostel; still you get what you pay for .....and I paid an awful lot for the optional extra DVD of my trip, featuring me for a full 5 seconds as we prepared to go snorkelling, then lots of fish and stuff.
Hooray for the Great Barrier Reef, did I mention it was awesome?
-------------------
Yes I know I keep updating the entries, but this blog is now acting as my journal/reminder for when I get home, as you know my memory is not the best and I think I am just getting ready for the Inca Trail in my proper journal (very slack!) so if I dont update then I will have no idea where I have been or what I did when there.
Anyway I took a day trip to the Daintree, ths included a trip on a river boat, where we saw bats, snakes and a tiny little crocodile (although that was fine by me, didn't want to see a big one after was told they could easily get onto the boat if they wanted to!), we then went to a wildlife 'sanctuary (arghhhhh), where I took hundreds of photo's of various indiginous animals that I will never remember the names of. fish at Great barrier reef

I had a good New Years Eve in Cairns, didn't get particularly drunk, but saw lots of fireworks (they have a 9pm family one, as well as the usual midnight display, although think there was an equal number of kids at both). I met up with Kim for new year, a friend of Jen and Chris's and went with her to the Esplanade to watch the shows, there was  a free concert and stuff and a great atmosphere, usual number of very drunk people falling over, and the police spent alot of time running up and down the street, which was interesting to watch. Checked out of the YHA the next morning and Kim kindly let me leave my stuff with her whilst I went swimming ith Sarah, a girl I met at the hostel on the Esplanade, which has a huge swimming pool that makes up for the lack of beach (beaches are out of town), we then went for lunch and did a bit of strolling around the shopping mall before I headed for the airport to catch my flight for Sydney.
Cairns very nice but the humidity is a killer, honestly the moment you get out of the shower, you feel like you need another one, dont know how the locals can stand it, 5 days more than enough for me!

Stars
Was going to give you a 4 star rating as serious lack of 'awesomes', but you redeemed yourself right at the end. Clever suspenseful tactic to extract a 5 starrer from me. (Would have given you 5 stars simply for inclusion of Scott and Charlene's wedding cake in photo album. What a wonderful cultural journey you are on.) Have a fantastic New Year, Jules. Love, Amanda
