Hello, bloody hell think I narrowly avoided being on GMTV earlier, they were filming at the Botanic Gardens as I walked past with loads of Brits in christmas hats, being shouted at by a producer and trying to say hello to relatives, oh the shame of being on GMTV (evil programme for neurotic parents!! they cant sue me for saying that can they?), just hope no one saw me scuttling past (fortunately had hood up as was raining; yes yet again I have brought my fave weather with me, was a scorching 40 degrees before I arrived, way too hot for me, but cooled down nicely the day I arrived- hooray).
Anyway I love Sydney; it is fabulous, ballet at the opera house last night was great, I am staying in an apartment overlooking botany bay, and my couchsurfer host works for the bus service, so free tickets for me on the tourist circuits. And yes, views of the harbour and opera house are just as good as they look on the telly. Speaking of the telly managed to watch a bit in Canberra, particularly like the way local news reports give interviewees free reign to say what the hell they like, they asked some old bloke about his views on the bush fires, some of which it seems may have been deliberately started and he responded with 'I'd like to see that fella [the firestarter) tied to a tree, wood all around him, burnt to a crisp' !!!!!!! Cant see HTV being allowed to get away with that kind of reporting thank god, though impressed with the graphic detail of the response, he'd obviously thought about it...
I went to Bondi beach earlier, and took the scenic coastal walk from Bronte to Bondi beach (though to be honest in the rain Bondi looks alot like Barry Island, though sand was a bit whiter, maybe less sewage)..
I enjoyed a lobster lunch in the fish market, sat outside to eat it until the evil looking birds got a bit close for comfort (one actually flew down and took a chip off my plate whilst i was eating!) and Tippi Hedren-esque nightmares forced me back inside, still you cant complain when you are paying less than ten quid for half a lobster and a glass of wine can you?
I also went up the Sydney tower, good views although think I might end my obsession with going up tall buildings soon, was thinking about all the tall buildings around the world that I have paid extortionate amounts of money to visit and how many individual views I can actually recall; realised that due to my poor concentration levels they all merged into one giant memory of 'every city', so not really evidencing value for money; I should stop visiting such buildings immediately and spend the money on other things like shoes.
Oh thanks to everyone who has voted me five stars since my outburst, shouldn't be long before my blog is up where it belongs in the rating system. (although my people are still investigating who the culprit was).
I may be staying in Sydney an extra week when I get back in the new year from Cairns, I cant get a flight out of here until the 11th (though still on waiting list for the 4th), seems most of Australia goes to Thailand for their holiday in January, something STA travel neglected to tell me when they gave me open dates on my ticket and said I should sort out the onward travel when I get to Australia.
Anyway as I am really enjoying Sydney it may not be such a bad thing...and there's a casino, although am a bit more weary since the Melbourne roulette incident (dont panic no need for gamblers anonymous yet).
And have finally applied for my Chinese visa, though not that happy about handing over my passport for 5 days, still hopefully they wont find out about my huge criminal record and right wing tendencies....!
I probably will manage to get to a PC before Tuesday, but just incase I dont ....
MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

Happy Christmas !!!
Well, guess what.... it's 40 degrees back here in Blighty as well !!!
Wishing you a very happy christmas and don't queue for 11 hrs to see the fireworks on NYE like we did... go with about 30 mins to spare and you'll be fine.
Glad you're enjoying Sydney. Go find the Andrew 'Boy' Charlton pool for a swim. You'll love it.
Happy christmas again and safe/happy travelling in 2007.
