I am actually in Queenstown, but didn't want the map to miss out Dunedin so creating an entry here.
My couchsurfer and I didn't make contact in time for me to stay with her (she was away for the weekend and e-mailed me her address yesterday) so I stayed in quite a nice hostel (single room, time for a splurge) called 'last stop' which was up quite a steep hill but pretty central.
I passed a cinema on the way from the bus stop so decided to go in on my first night and was glad I did, if you get the chance go see 'out of the blue' a NZ film based on a mass killing in a small town close to Dunedin in 1990. Some of the film was set in Dunedin and was quite weird to see the locations on the big screen minutes after walking past them. The film is very well done, unlike the film I went to see on the second night (well I haven't been to the pictures for ages) starring Russell Crow called A Good Year which should be subtitled 'a bad film' Cadbury world;died and gone to heaven

.
Anyway I went to Speights brewery and the cadbury factory for a tour (listen, I just do what the Rough Guide tells me)and partook in several samples, then took a scenic train journey along the Taieri Gorge Railway, which is supposed to be one of the great train jpourneys of the world, and it was pretty spectacular too. I also visited the city art gallery which had some nice Frances Hodges hanging as well as Hope by Burne-Jones (Julia- got you a postcard)and an Augustus John.
I took yet another lovely bus trip at 2pm and arrived in Queenstown at 6pm, a couple of hours ago. You can imagine how overjoyed I was to discover that I have been booked into a mixed dorm (no women only beds left), and seeing my 2 male 20 something German roommates walk into the room with 2 crates of beer...God I hope I don't have to shout at them and make them cry...
