After experiencing the Glen Canyon area we discussed where to go to next on our outdoor adventure
Zion was a different landscape than we have encountered earlier. It was full of stacked sandstone sediment and large imposing cliffs. It was probably the busiest park I have been to since Disneyworld. Another resemblance to Disney was that you had to ride a shuttle to get to your destination, whether it be rock slides, pools or the "river". I didn't realize that a bathing suit was mandated when entering the park, but it seemed like it was enjoyed as a giant water park for most families.
We first walked along the Virgin River that was described as a torrential beast of a river powerful enough to carve out Zion canyon. Kind of surprising considering it was about 3 inches deep and 8 feet wide with 2 year olds playing in the water. We then headed to Weeping Rock (aka “the big wet rock”). Seeing a wet rock was not the most exciting thing I have ever experienced but it offered a beautiful view of the canyon. We then walked along the river and headed to Watchman’s Trail. For this one we were back in the desert and we again had beautiful views of the cliffs along the hike, but the overlook was of the parking lot. To end the day we went to the Canyon Overlook trail and saw the amazing cones and spires formed from the stacked sandstone layers along the hike to then see the park road from the overlook. All in all it was a great side trip before our long journey to Denver tomorrow
