We went for a walk to the harbour. Definitely a working harbour, not too much attractive here. A boat trip took us to the highlights ....... The container terminal, the dry dock the construction site. A wander along the streets and we headed back to the hotel.
We went out to a german restaurant for dinner
. Lovely .........potato and smoked salmon soup, chicken salad and best roast suckling pork ever. We were hoping the night life might have started but it doesn't get dark around here until about 11pm. We did see one lady with red lipstick and a short skirt under a white fur jacket leading a man dressed in a dog costume along on a chain. The 'dog' even had his chew toy held in his mouth. And two police cars seemed to be persuading a man that sleeping in the middle lane of the main street was not a good option. But the whole thing was pretty quiet. As far as I could see the main benefit of staying in this area was the shoe shops. The boots were amazing!
Oh, and I did buy a red wig for going out.
We set off early for Hamburg. I had booked us for one night into an ex brothel in the reeperbahn - the red light district. When we got there at about midday the hotel was a hoot. The bar stools were pink leopard print, the wall paper was rich peacock motif as in a old fashioned brothel and the lighting was red which gave everything a unsavory feel. We were in the 'fetish' room. It had red satin sheets, black walls and silver accessories. It was great...... But I'm not thinking of redecorating.
