Where I stayed

Flag of Austria  , Vienna,
Saturday, July 7, 2012

We caught the train to Melk and visited the abbey. Very impressive although the information signs were a little preachy and at time esoteric. A few digs at Germany in the information.

(Aside: seems the Austrians and Swiss don't like the Germans, the Spanish don't like the moroccans, the Czechs don't like the Austrians or Germans and no one likes the French. )

We then boated our cruise of the wachau valley, a major wine growing area. we crused from Melk to Krems. Very nice.

It was hot and I had my swimmers so we stopped at the local pool in Krems. Ashley was supposed to have his swimmers but had somehow left them on the bed in the hostel. He swam in 'backpacker boardies' (his shorts). We had a snack and caught the train back to Vienna.

I suppose we had to see some of Vienna although I was still cranky about the transport. We saw the cathedral (met a really nice Indian man and he and I bonded over a love of Gaudi ) and then went looking for a famous restaurant that serves the largest schnitzel in Vienna. Wow! We found it.

We then went to a tourist Mozart and Strauss concert. Nice but a bit lame. We had another fight with the transport system and went to bed. Thank god we were out of there the next day!
