As part of our time in Zadar, Ashley and I went on an all day tour to the National Park located on the nearby islands. We were to leave at 8pm and come back at 5pm with food included.

But these tours are never quite what you expect.

One: we were not going on that big boat that has the siagn on it and the guy was selling the tickets for......We are going on some unseen mystery boat.

Two: We start by getting in a bus and going to some undisclosed destination. One Aussie guy got so worried that he queried if this really was the tour to the national park.

Three: We get to the boat.....fortunately every bit as good as the big one next to the ticket seller....and then we wait. Turns our we leave at 9:30 not 8 (I could have had my toast and coffee)

Four: a few minutes after we get underway they give us a welcome drink. I love a couple of shots of vodka at 10 o,clock in the morning!

Five: at 10am they give us huge ham and cheese rolls.....with more vodka shots. Could this tour GET any better!

The islands were beautiful and the colour of the sea is continually amazing. Deep, deep blue with a clarity that allows beams of light to sink to infinity. I find it mesmerizing and constantly enchanting. Near the shore it becomes turquoise and you just want to dive in.

We swam in a salt lake with a water temperature of 22 degrees (current sea temperature is about 19 degrees). nice place but some of the passengers are a bit ridiculous. Ashley and I got in one side and swam across to the other (about 120m ...there wasn,t anywhere else to go). One macho guy thought he would try it. 'Oh, no. That's too risky for me.' 'I'm starting to get cramps' and one girl was heard to ask her boyfriend 'Are there sharks in here?'

At the end of the day we motored into Zadar port as the sun wa low in the sky. Magic stuff.
