Perhaps it is a little premature to call but I believe I can present some of the best and worst of Turkey.

Best impromptu party
A crazy group of Georgiana were staying at our hostel in Cappadocia and had. Caused some disturbance for the past few nights. They were celebrating orthodox Easter and in the morning when we met them they were trying to find a goat to roast. The group was about 16, with slightly more males than females. They were in their late twenties/early thirties. On our last night we had seen them eating in te local restaurant and when we got back to hotel they had started up again. The 'leader' was at great pains to assure me that they would only be together until 11pm and very quiet and then go to sleep with no problem. 'but, please. Now you join us'. And do we found ourselves drinking alternate glasses of homemade liquor and vodka and eating salami and pickled veggies. At one point we stood for the Georgian national anthem. Ashley and I then belted out the Australian national anthem. We found ourselves proposing toasts to friendship and love and achieving oun's dreams. There was dancing (of a sort) and singing. Great fun. (by the way, the Georgians partied until 2am and then left the hotel at 5am. We last saw the driver downing vodka from a bully's horn cup.)

Worst tour
Our tour to pammukale was terrible. We had to leave at 6am and spent. 5hr in a cramped, crowded minibus driving in the rain. But the terrible part is that this 5 hours was stretched out to 7 hr by compulsory stops at a linen shop, winery and carpet shop (next person to offer me a carpet I will deck). And worse still we had been promised a guide but there was no English guide. And worse still there was a russian guide that spoke none stop at us in Russian. Ashley thinks she must be a dolphin and able to breathe through a hole in her head because we never saw her take breath. And worse still it was raining with strong winds when we got there and so we didn't swim in the thermal pools. When we came back I went back to travel agent and asked for half money back. I settled for a free transfer to the airport for when we leave.

Most unexpected meal
We took off in a bus armed only with one word 'kursunlu' which was a location of some waterfalls. We had to change at a large bus depot and then were taken by minibus to a dusty area for a few buses to pull in. We presented our single word and got the reply 'half hour'. I mimed eating and the guy made kofte (long thin bread with chicken) and tea (endemic in turkey). We then had ice creams (streets Magnum $1:50 and ice poles $0:15). We pulled out the family photos and had a great time with the other bus drivers who were waiting for their routes

Most romantic evening
Anatalya has a Mediterranean feel......tiny secluded harbour, high cliffs and blue water. We took a cruise at sunset ($6) and then wandered up to a seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour. Picture a gentle breeze, blue water with the sun setting behind snow capped mountains. We stayed until the lights came on around the bay. It was a gentle stroll along cobblestone streets back to our hostel.

Most disappointing beach
There is a reason Australians are not impressed with other beaches. Ashley and I 'missed' the beach the first time in the bus. How did we know? It didn't look like a beach.
1. There was no surf
2. There was no sand
3. It was a grey Stoney colour
4. There were no hamburger shops

Sure the water is blue, but is it worth the effort?
