A week of doing.... nothing.

So during my travels I have spoken to a lot of people who have come from this place called Dahab in Egypt, on the Red Sea coast. They told me it was very easy to get "stuck" there and stay for much longer than intended. "Yeah right" I told myself before arriving there on Sunday, "I'll be here for one day and will move on to Cairo by Tuesday". Well.... what everyone warned me about actually happened; I got stuck in Dahab. Why you ask? Well there are a number of reasons that make Dahab such an attractive destination. Dahab is known as having a very "hippy" vibe, meaning it has a very chilled and laidback atmosphere. The waterfront of Dahab, although not lined by a beautiful or sandy beach, is filled with waterfront restaurants, cafes and bars, each serving fantastic food (and of course drinks) at very good prices (even though I know now expensive by Egyptian standards). So pretty much for a week, well actually six days, I whiled away my time eating, drinking, playing some pool, listening to music, reading and sleeping on a sun bed. Yes very lazy I know, but I was in need of a bit of lazy time away from sightseeing and taking photos. In fact I deliberately did not pull out the camera for my entire time in Dahab, and actually enjoyed just doing nothing for a change. Not EVERY day did I do absolutely nothing; there was one day where I did actually do something constructive. Near Dahab, about 5km away, there is a very well known diving and snorkeling spot known as the Blue Hole. So I hired some snorkeling gear for the day and organised transport there and back and spent the day snorkeling. It was my first time snorkeling at a proper snorkeling site and must say it was absolutely incredible. As soon as you dip your head under the water from the shore there are colourful fish of all sorts swimming around you. I must say as an experience it would have to be up there as one of the highlights of the trip, it was really, really beautiful. Most nights have involved playing pool and drinking beer, however I am much better at one (can you guess which one?). I have met lots of interesting people however in the last few days the place seems to be overrun by the British again, seems to be dejavu from back in Bodrum in Turkey! So apart from that there is not too much to report from Dahab unfortunately, and as mentioned before no photos to share. Tomorrow I am off to Cairo and officially beginning the last leg of the trip.
