Day 4: The Great Smokies and Heading to Nashville

After leaving the park and grabbing a spot of lunch, we proceeded to truck on through to Nashville. Not a terribly exciting drive, but we're glad to be here now, and are looking forward to exploring downtown tomorrow. We're still enjoying the southern hospitality -- and delicious barbecue!
Today began bright and early with a fabulous 2-hour ride through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Our legs are sore now, but it was worth every minute. The ride went up and down part of one of the mountains, through a bit of valley, and all of it through thick, deciduous forest. We, unfortunately (or maybe not so unfortunately), did not see any of the bears or turkeys that our guides thought might be out in the morning. Afterwards, we drove on soft comfy seats through parts of the park, most of it along the Little River. It's a lovely, windy road that follows the banks of the river. The Great Smokies are really beautiful, but it is rather unfortunate that such an ecological gem is plagued by high air pollution from the surrounding areas.
