Laughter meditation: i think this may be my favorite one! everyone comes into the Osho auditorium and sits on the floor. our guide explains the process and then states, "ok, well let's start laughing!" and all of a sudden, the whole room is filled with laughter. it's quite a show and i'm shocked at the intensity with which people are laughing. i start out laughing a little bit and find myself fascinated by the guy on my right side who has apparently just heard the funniest joke of his life. he's gasping for air, slapping the floor, totally into it. i look around the room and start laughing just at the sheer novelty of it. everyone's laughing a little differently, some quiet and reserved, others just totally out there. the room feels so happy and alive. again, it takes some conscious effort to laugh for 20 minutes, but it feels really good if you let it happen. anytime i run out of funny things to think of, i look around the room and laugh at the girl by the wall who's on her back and kicking her feet in the air. haha. the 2nd stage is 20 min of silence, and lastly, 20 min of dancing. again the dancing feels great, especially with all the positive energy in the room. as i write this i realize that an hour meditation seems pretty long, but it actually goes by really fast..
lastly i attend the Nadabrahma meditation which is designed to create inner harmony and balance within. this consists of 30 minutes of sitting with eyes closed and humming, feeling the vibrations of your voice move through your body. for the next 7 minutes, your hands are moved slowly in front of the abdomen in horizontal circles with palms up, as if giving your energy to the world. the next 7 min your hands are moved in the opposite direction with palms down, taking energy back to your body. the last 15 minutes are of silent sitting with eyes closed. i arrived a little late for this one and missed all of these directions, so i didn't exactly do all of these steps. i just copied what i thought other people were doing. i didn't know we were supposed to hum, and i kind of just put my hands in front of me not knowing why in the 2nd stage. however, i felt the potential of the meditation and still felt really relaxed and could feel some of the energy in my hands during the 3rd stage. after the meditation, i bought the cd in the bookstore so i could practice it properly back home :)
afterwards, i spend some time writing in my journal until i meet up with my friend who hangs out w/ me for my last couple hours. i'm sad to go, especially after meeting such lovely people and because i finally started feeling really comfortable and open there. i feel like i've just hit the tip of the iceberg, and like these 4 days were just a tease. i wish i had a month, or 6 months to spend at the center, which is not unusual for people to do. when i tell people i'm leaving, they smile knowingly and reassure me i'll be back. and i think they're right.. it's natural to have your reservations about the place at first, but if you suspend judgement and you allow yourself to be open to everything and release your inhibitions, you can really feel the benefits of the meditations and the aura of the center as a whole. it's a place where you feel safe and free, and where you know that you're perfectly fine the way you are, and you're encouraged to express all of that. it's a protected place for exploration of yourself. i hope to come back soon..
