! why don't they respect the laws of the mosquito net?! they're supposed to stay on the OUTSIDE! however, i patched up a hole i found in the net with some pretty duct tape, and ive been sleepin like a baby ever since, without fear of bugs falling on me while i'm sleeping. ahh, life is good...
oh, i forgot to mention snakes. the 4 most dangerous snakes in India can all be found in the area where i'm staying! cobras, vipers, and the other i can't remember. the 1st week there were 2 vipers and a baby cobra. yesterday they found a huge adult cobra, which they caught in a container and dropped off far from the ashram. the snakes are really pretty, but very poisonous. one girl actually found a cobra in her locker in the room! glad that wasn't me...
bugs bugs everywhere! one thing i've been struggling with here are the many many bugs that seem to really like me. a scorpion in the bathroom, centipede chillin in my bed (yes in my BED! and not a little one either, but a full-on, adult, reddish-brown centipede), crickets, moths, beetles and grasshoppers. they multiply in my room, sometimes coming in through the door, but more often through hidden holes in the room and most often, falling from the ceiling out of nowhere! we've decided there must be a bug nest in the ceiling, because it's almost a joke how many there are. particularly these tiny beetle things that seem to die within 12 hours of falling on our floor (or on the bed, or on me while im trying to sleep). in the morning, we sweep the floor and its full of these little guys. ive finally put a mosquito net over my bed, but a few hours after i put it up, there was a beetle hangin out on the INSIDE of the net! i took it out with my bug catcher (by that i mean a tupper ware from home which i collect bugs in and later toss them out outside after i have enough), and the same bug (or its brother) was INSIDE my net again?
