The next morning we departed Zion and went to Bryce Valley where we all walked around in assorted groups. The landscape was truly breathtaking with thousands of pinnacles of different coloured rock rising into the air. It was almost alien in appearance.
Later that afternoon we departed Bryce Canyon and went to Mystic which is a hot springs that a hippy has set up shop in. Our driver Jimmy knew him well and so we had dinner and then sorted all our crap out for the Miracle which baffled myself and the others that had joined at Vegas, since we had to ask for an explanation. In summary when travelling during the day on the bus it is divided into 3 parts, the back is a mattressed platform where people can lie and sleep or sit and amuse themselves, then there are two galley style tables with seats on either side of the central aisle
. This aisle extends to the front of the bus which has two mattressed benches running along each side of the bus. The miracle is when the two front parts are converted for sleeping. This entails converting the tables into 2 x 2 double bed bunks (i.e. sleeps 8 people) and the front section gets turned into another platform. Additional sleeping is also provided as bunks that are suspended from the ceiling of the bus on either side, which on a normal bus would be where hand luggage is stowed. This is where we would normally keep our day packs, but since all available space inside the bus is used for sleeping on overnight drives, it becomes a nightmare to store personal effects (our big packs are stored in lockers under the bus). So our daypacks are also stowed under the front and rear sleeping platforms. Coordination and planning is essential when doing the miracle and as happened to me you usually forget something you need and gets packed underneath. There were 27 people on my tour and we were comfortable but apparently these buses can sleep 36, which is something I would not want to experience! After sorting out for the Miracle I went and had a nice long soak in the hot springs before we all sang happy birthday to our driver Jimmy.
