We arrived in Bangkok feeling absolutely exhausted and got to our hotel as quickly as possible. Amazingly they let us into our room at about 10am which was great because we fell asleep for a few hours. After that we went to see the Giant Buddha - see photo - which was amazing. Then we came back and booked trips to the floating market and to Ayuttaha.

Today we went to the floating market which was fantastic. The market opens at 5.00am and lasts until 7.30am for Thai people and after this it is for the tourists. So obviously there was the usual tourist tat but there were also some really beautiful stalls with many types of fruit and photos and bags etc. I was so self-restrained! I managed to persuade Nick to go on a ride on a boat along the floating market rather than just walking at ground level to get a different kind of experience and we managed to get a ride for just the two of us for 200 baht - instead of the 150 baht per person per ride with lots of other people! The people were so interesting - see photos. I bought a canvas photo of the floating market in sepia with one boat in colour, so pretty. A good addition to my Brighton room I feel.

After we arrived back in Bangkok we went to have lunch straight away because we hadn't had time to eat anything in the morning and then got a tuk-tuk to the Grand Palace. Here we saw the Emerald Buddha and the Palace buildings - lots of pomp and splendour. Then we walked to the Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha) which was simply huge. All these things are so fascinating and everyone I spoke to said "get out of Bangkok as fast as you can" but we're really enjoying ourselves. The food is amazing and the heat is unbelievable - you stand outside for a minute and you're hot and sweating.

Tomorrow we're booked on a tour to Ayuttaha which leaves our hotel at 6.30am but it'll be worth it - we're going up by air-conditioned boat, walking around the old capital city and then coming back to Bangkok by boat. I think it's going to be amazing and it's terribly easy - in the beginning it's good to find your feet with easy tours!

That's all for now! Lots of love xxxxx
