Windy Cabarete
Entry 19 of 19 | show all | print this entry |
The penultimate stage of our round the world trip! - Republic Domincan.
The route we took from Hawaii was long... involved 4 plane changes and rigourous luggage searched from the airline staff. But we arrived in one piece and rather jet lagged. Wish the same could be said for my surfboard which has been crumpled and written off. Luckily I have good insurance cover.
The hustle and bustle surrounding Puerta Plata is eactly as I left it 3 years ago. Entire familes are still being transported on small motoconchos complete with their weekly flock of chickens.
As soon as our feet touched base in Cabarete we rushed to the beach for the final section of the PKRA (world cup for kiteboarding). The wind was light but the pros were still able to perform some jaw-droppingly-amazing moves. That evening we enjoyed local rum-based cocktails on the beach whilst the sun slipped away behind the mountains inland.
The PKRA riders left Cabarete a few days later for its next destination Tarifa and Cabarete relaxed even more in true caribbean style.
Our jobs at the Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding centre are going well and we are working most days when the wind is good and kitesurfing ourselves when we are not teaching. Our life is simple out here.
We have lucked in with our accomodation. We have found an apartment surrounded by lush palms and tropical vegatation, complete with pool, air con, cable TV and lots of space.
James laptop has now given up the ghost so I wont be able to add any photos to the rest of our travelpods until I get back to England. Hopefully you can paint a picture in your mind of where we are.
