We left Lanceline fairly aerly in the morning to continue our trip northwards.
Our first stop on route was Jurien Bay to sample some fresh crayfish.Mmm, The further up the coral coast the less crayfish there are so we made sure we had some!
Approximately two hours passed of driving alon g ridicously long straight highways until we reached Cevantes - a small village with great beaches and the peculiar pinnacles desert.
Approximately two hours passed of driving along ridicously long straight roads untilo we reached Cevantes - a small village with great beaches and the peculiar Pinnacles desert.
When we arrived it was very windy - too windy in fact for kitesurfing, so we had a blustery walk around the headland. After we took a stroll around the few shops Cevantes had to offer - each shop owner was extremely pleased to see us - not sure how many visitors Cevnates gets...
After checking into a camp site right on the beach front we made our way to the Pinnacles Desert National Park. This desert has limestone veins running through the rich orange sand, resulting in clusters of limestone pillars. We visited the national park after 5om to avoid the high tarif it costs to drive in a 2km loop. The pinnacles themselves are quite funny to look at and as the evening sun was drawing in, long shadows were starting to grow throughout the desert.
On our way back to the camp site we were rewarded with seeing two friendly kangaroos! Until now I had only seen them as roadkill!!!!
The next day we contined our journey north for another couple of hours along another long straight road.
We arrived in Geraldton on the hottest day of the year so far so I promptly jumped straight into the sea and stayed there for a while.
Geraldton is a excellent place for watersports lovers - plenty of differnt aspect beaches with varying sized reefs. We have kited at: sunset beach, point moore beach next to a huge lighthouse, and also coronation beach. Coronation beach is my least favourite beach as i saw a shark whilst kitesurfing a couple of days ago. EEK!. I didnt hang aroiund long enough to say hello and made a beeline back to the beach as quick as possible.
Another highlight of Geraldton was meeting up with an aquantance who has been living here for 3 yrs. His mate took as all out on his boat for a spear fishing and snorkelling trip. There was not much to see in terms of pretty reef fish but he did come back with a bag full fo crayfish. On his way back in, a stingray started tackling him and tried dragging him under a rock...
Christmas is coming up so we will contine our travels northwards as we are hoping to be in coral bay over Christmas. On the ningaloo reef we should experience some great snorkelling.
Missing everyone and would to hear some of your news too.XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
