G'Day and welcome to the start of my Australia travels.

Well. Its been 2 weeks since I arrived and I have fallen in love with Australia and its quirky habits.

Before I get started this is our intinery. It has already changed and I'm sure it will change again.

UK > OZ (Perth > exmouth > Perth > Margaret River region > Esperance > Melbourne > sydney > Byron Bay > Frasier island > Sydney) > NZ, Auckland > Fiji, Nadi > Hawaii > Dominican Republic > New York > UK... thats roughly it but with more stops than I have mentioned...

It didn't take long for the much anticipated hunt for vans to commence. I think we started looking on notice boards on day 2! We travelled to many suburbs to test view and test ride a handful of complete 'bangers'. We were however rewarded with a van complete with flames sprayed down the sides, a super loud whining fan belt, thick black smoke coming out of the exhaust, and I think at least 4 complete changes of clothes hidden in almost didn't start and we were extremely apprehensive doing a hill start... will it hold...its not holding...quick rev that engine. Anyhow - made it back in one piece and made a polite excuse saying 'its not really what we're looking for but this van definitely has the most character'....
At this point we nearly gave up hope of finding the 'perfect kite surf wagon'. But after a day trip to Freemantle we stumbled across a bar.. ha!... and also our van! It was purchased from a fellow Brit, nicknamed Pasty from Cornwall. So in honor of him we are calling the van 'PATSY' as it appears most boats/cars have female names. So we spent a day sawing and drilling in the strong Aussie sunshine and have fully customized Patsy. She is now complete with raised bed, big esky, chest of drawers, surfboard/kite storage underneath, upright cabinet with rather slanting hung doors..(harder than it looks to hang a door!!). The van came equipped with butane cooker, crockery, pans etc, camping chairs, snorkeling gear so this saved us a heap of cash.

That's enough geeky van talk. Very soon I'll write an informative e-mail detailing places we have visited.

See you. XXX
