Sorry we haven¡¦t updated this sooner but it has been windy EVERYDAY since we last wrote. Our days have been very similar: wake up, go to bakery for fresh bread (only 3p a roll), pack up the kites, flag down a passing pick-up truck to take us over the ever changing desert of sand dunes to shark beach. Which incidentally I think is only called shark beach to scare off the tourists as we have even seen so much as a mini reef fish there yet¡K

James¡¦ kitesurfing is improving no end, for the kiters amongst you reading, he has been trying: back mobes, flat 3¡¦s, handle passes, strapless surf board riding, and some other stuff I don¡¦t know the names of. As for me, i have been zooming so fast in one direction barely touching the water as I go¡K. Ha ha. I¡¦m getting more and more control and even did a jump off a wave the other day. I had a bit of an ¡¥incident¡¦ with a French man, he flew his kite into mine and my lines snapped, luckily I have a spare pair, but he was a bit naughty and claimed it wasn¡¦t his fault (after admitting he wasn¡¦t insured). So he flew off back home without so much as giving me a euro¡K f¼

We did have a couple of days with no wind so we took a bus to the next village called Espagoes. There is not much there except a couple of music shops, and a hill with the islands satellite dish on top. We were a little foolish to arrive during the afternoon siesta so as the village was shut we decided to climb to the top to gain a good view point of the island. Half way up some army men started whistling at us, we didn¡¦t really know what they were signalling so we continued the climb. Once at the top we were greeted by 4 guards and were given a guided tour of their hill and satellite dish. (See photos¡K.)

We have met a couple of German guys, Klause and El Loco. El Loco, 35, is a funny guy from Hamburg who is the master of ingenuity and invention! For example a local friend of ours goes spear fishing pretty everyday and one day caught too many and so we started preparing for a big bbq. El loco found a wheel hub for the coals to sit in¡K.. he then decided that because he lived on the second floor of the house that he would dangle chairs and cutlery over his balcony to us below instead of using the stairs¡K and the cherry on the cake was when he thought we would need a table so he unscrewed his bedroom door from the hinges and dangled that over the balcony too¡K. It was a funny night indeed and the fresh fish was very tasty.

Today we went fishing again on the pier. At first it appeared to be another duff fishing outing as we got a hook stuck and the line broke, but that seemed to change fortunes as a Portuguese man took pity on us and gave us 5 new hooks. I then found a heavy shell to use as a weight and we started getting lots of bites¡K he saw we were still not catching anything thing so gave us a souvenir from Cape Verde, which was a serious looking weight and hook set up. And within minutes I caught our first fish, see photo¡K. YEAH! It is sitting ready to be cooked for our dinner as I type¡K.must leave you on that note to go and cook.
