What a wonderful night's sleep we had! We were dead tired after the long day of training, walking, eating, walking somemore, haggling ... plus had to go to another room to shower as the water heater in our room was on the blink! ahahahahahah typical! What was interesting about that though is, we got to see another room. We are in the Royal Suite on the ground floor and had only managed to peek into the other rooms around us. All decorated differently, all beautiful. This other one was through a maze of stairways and corridors - really pretty all along the way and we discovered 2 roof courtyards getting there. We showered in a family suite on the top floor. Also beautifully done. Found out this place is a heritage home and the owners are descendants of rulers of Patan. Please if any one of you plans a trip to Jaipur ... you have to stay here!
Today we booked our train tickets to Jodhpur
Went to Amber Fort today (Mark, that's the one up on the hill that you asked me about.) Took so many photos of the people visiting. Our first 4GB card is full now! Have to do some culling tonight. Had lunch in the Old City at a place called Ganesh Rest. Now - to find this place is in itself a journey. Even the auto rickshaw driver wasn't too sure. But he found it and pointed it out to us from opposite the 'New Gate' entrance, but when we got to it ... it was just sari fabric shops below. We then found some narrow stairs that led up to the roof. Very small and unappealing looking eating place, but recommend in the bible (Lonely Planet Guide) so we gave it a go. OMIGOD the food! ahahahahahahhaah it was so good! The cooks were just above the roof of the shop corridors below and we sat practically next to this open-air makeshift kitchen made out of makeshift metal benches and 2 holes for the fire. A tandoor and an open coal stove. It was amazingly clean and neat though.
In then walks a gora couple ..
Must I tell you that I spent a good 15 minutes chatting with the cook and watching him cook? I almost felt like having a go at the cooking. Tomorrow we are planning to go back and eat there again so I might ask if I can have a try. They were soooo nice. Letting me smell all their masalas and opening all their pots for me to see the food inside. I loved it.

Check out my new umbrella!
. We had originally planned to have a car and driver take us all the way around Rajasthan, but we enjoyed our train trip and figured - alamak - so cheap to go by train, we might as well. The trip to Jodhpur cost us about A$10 each! Can you believe it?? That's 5 1/2 hours away.Went to Amber Fort today (Mark, that's the one up on the hill that you asked me about.) . Alan quickly spied his Cannon camera and mega lens ... mega mega lens and started chatting to him. They were Aussies! He had travelled thru the Middle East and met the girl in China. They went to Kathmandu together and are now doing India. He and I exchanged cameras and wowed at what each had.Must I tell you that I spent a good 15 minutes chatting with the cook and watching him cook? I almost felt like having a go at the cooking.
