Bryce Canyon - Utah

Took ourselves up to Bryce Canyon today - about an hour's drive from the cabin. This is one strange place. The erosion over the years has created a park of Hoodoos - tall columnar like structures.
From above it is one amazing site, but as one descends into the canyon, it becomes even more interesting. We did a hike to the canyon floor and walked amongst the hoodoos. It was incredible.
Whilst down in the canyon too, a storm approached which was great for the photography but they do tell you not to be in rocky places with storms approaching. Lightening kills!
Jacq had, as she does, skiddadled ahead like a mountain goat. She loved to really move it and she could too - VERY fit. Really put the two of us to shame! By the time we made it out of the canyon, she was cuddled up in the car - had had her lunch - and was as cozy as wondering if we would make it out before the storm hit! Real care from my cousin!
We also drove up to the end of the scenic drive which climbed quite high and would you believe, up high there was a huge hail storm. Quite frightening stuff really because it was whiteout with hail. Incredible and yet lower down, there was nothing! The ground was actually white with hail - it looked like it had been snowing!
That episode in Bryce was followed by a hike in Kodachrome Basin. That was excellent and was actually unplanned. We just happened to call into the park on the way back - saw the sign and decided what the heck - and the hike was really fantastic. It was called that because of the fantastic colours that can be viewed in the park and because of the time of day, it being late afternoon, the setting sun brought out the colours of the rocks. It was excellent.
Dinner this evening we were treated to BBQ King Salmon from Jacq. Yuuuuum!
