Calgary Stampede! Good looking cowboys in their leather chaps! Yuumy! It was fantastic. Lots and lots of people of course and whew, very expensive and set up to take every cent off you! Interesting though, we had expected to see stalls and stalls of western wear and in fact there were stalls and stalls of food with lots of people stuffing their faces! There were quite a number of free events on - of the agricultural variety - world stock dog championships, team penning and miniature horse chuck wagon races - lots of good fun and taken very seriously - BIG money to be won. At 1.30 we had tickets to the rodeo ring - bare back riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, bronco riding, barrel racing etc. wow these guys are tough, I would not be getting out of bed everday just to be thrown off horses or steers, get head butted by angry bulls, stomped on by wild horses - although the prize money is pretty good - over $100,000 is up for grabs, but boy they have to work hard for it. That show finished around 4pm we had tickets for the chuck wagon races and grandstand show for 8pm so we went to watch more events etc then onto the wagon races. The weather turned pretty nasty and cold - Jude ended up with a short sleeve shirt, yoga sweater, a fleece and a raincoat - and only just managed to stay warm! The chuck wagon races were awesome to watch - and the show was great. We managed to get back to the hotel by 1.30am. Thankfully we could sleep in till 6.30! But great dreams of all those lovely cowboys!
