We had the opportunity to sleep in a little today because the appointment at Washington State Penitentiary was only at 11.00. Great! After the mad rush of the previous two days it was good to slow down a little.
Gig Harbor - where the prison was located - was a quaint little town clearly with houses that looked like they were for the rich. But you know what? Beautiful houses at fantastic prices! We were astounded at how cheap property is here. Houses that we would class out of our price range back home were HALF the price! Now of course that MAY be relative to the salaries but suffice to say, the price of some of the houses were enough to say, "Let's buy one"!
Now we are not going to get into the business of the prison here but suffice to say we eventually finished up there at four and following a walk through the town, we were on our way east towards Idaho. We were a little disappointed with the prison visit though I did manage to get some information of value. Interesting though, most of the information came from the inmates who were actually quite delightful. There was one of the inmates who, at age 13 had been manipulated by her mother to murder her boss. She was given 20 years - don't know how much the mother was given - but how awful is that? She was turning 21 the next day but what kind of future has this young girl got and what kind of mother could do that to her daughter? So sad. Anyway, I got the information I wanted and back to the travel - we headed for Idaho but of course we didn't get there because it was already late, so we ended up pulling into a little town called North Bend where we stayed the night.
