San Fran again!
Entry 2 of 22 | show all | print this entry |
Back in San Francisco. It seems like only yesterday we were here! Actually, come to think of it, it was less than a year ago that we were here. Had we not had business to attend to, we certainly would not have come this year, and as well, would not have flown into San Francisco. That being said though, if one wants to come to the West Coast, one really does have to choose between either LA, San Fran or Seattle so really, little choice actually. Hah listen to me, trying to justify another trip to San Fran!
Ok, so let's do it.
Arriving in at the same time as last time as well, it was certainly busier and of course, this time it is high season. But you know what? Everything is so well organized at this airport. Getting to our rental car was no issue at all. From the plane to pick up point of the car is a breeze. Getting through customs was relatively quick as well this time. We had to scan our hands on the fingerprint reader and because we did that last year, it picked us up instantly. That is good I guess - can't be confused with some undesirable!
Back to the car - a really strange setup! After completing all the documents and blah blah, we were directed to the car park where all the rental cars were located. Each agency has its own area in the terminal building. Expecting them to bring our car to us we stood waiting - and waiting - and waiting till eventually decided we had better go find someone. Nah - you could wait till hell freezes over - and that is not likely - you actually just mosey around in the section you have chosen (compact, intermediate, full size or luxury) and choose one! What a blast! So there we were - looking at colours first, then sitting in each of the full size vehicles to feel what is most comfortable.. Jude reckons it was the same as choosing Christmas trees - we wonder around, she chooses one - we keep looking - and then end up going back to the one she chose in the first place! Great fun.
Off we went and found the hotel with absolutely no difficulty at all. Just like old hands negotiating the traffic!
Very pleased indeed with our hotel - the Courtyard Marriott - great hotel at a great price.
A quick shower to clear the cobwebs and we were off. Firstly to the Alamo which we had missed last time and then returned to Fisherman's Wharf for Clam Chowder and Ghiardelli's. Jude had this absolutely sickening mint sundae - even I would say that! By the time she finished that, she looked a totally pale shade of green. I hesitated to mention "ice cream" at any time because had I done that, I think she would have thrown up there and then in the street.
Unfortunately, the Segways were already closed so the foreshore tour we had hoped to do didn't happen. Aaah well, not to worry - we'll be back again!
