Crossing the Border into Indonesian West Timor was interesting- A police & immigration check on the east side, then a 100m walk through no-mans land into West Timor where we had a Police check, Customs check & then Immigration - keeping people employed I guess.

The differences between East & West is quite noticeable: villages with electricity, satellite dishes, fatter cattle, schools with children in uniforms and greener. These only became more apparent as we screamed along the hilly, windy and narrow road for the next 5 hours into Kupang.

Bustling with motor-scooters, mini-van taxis and people, yet Kupang has nothing of special tourist interest, apart from my first Bintang beer! (all the tastier in the heat and when paying with rupiahs). I also got stuck into whatever local street food I could find; rice with something green, something, yellow, something brown, a fried egg and then loads of sambal! (chilly), while my adventurous pommie mate, John, searched high and low for a cheeseburger....

A very friendly place, people always practicing their English on you with "Hello Mister, where you from?" even from motorcyclists going the opposite direction! We decided to dodge the 17+ hour ferry to the northern Island of Flores, so it's a quick 40 minute flight tomorrow instead!

BEST: Cold Bintang
WORST: Warm Bintang
FUNNIEST: John's face after eating Chilly!
