The troops split up today with me going sports fishing with Chad and the girls taking a glass bottom boat tour. I had an early start, up at 5.30am for a 6am departure on the 34ft sports fishing boat Chad had booked. We left the dock around 6 and then headed up the coast. After about an hour we dropped some lures off the back and almost immediately got hooked up to an 8 pound mahi mahi or 'dorado' in the local parlance. Chad reeled the first one in and being so early it was a great sign. The next couple of hours saw another 4 more mahi mahi hook ups until about 10.30 am when the fish stopped biting. Our first mate tried every trick in the book, using different types of lures and live baitfish but all to no avail. The coronas beckoned so we settled back and enjoyed the view and hoped for the big one that never came. Still, all in all we got 5 mahi mahi between 8 and 14 lbs and although we were disappointed we didn't hook a marlin, it was otherwise considered a fairly good day out...we had a funny experience on the way back in a big old sea lion swam up and whacked its flippers down on the transom and opened its mouth as if to say "Give me a feed!" It was in luck we had a couple of mullet left over from the live bait tank which it happily accepted and went on its way. No wonder it was so huge!
Back at the hotel the girls reported that they had a great day out snorkeling. They went out to Lovers Beach, Divorce Beach and the famous Cabo arch a.k.a. El Arco de Cabo San Lucas. They also stopped off at the sea lion beach where there was a herd of sea lions gathered on some rocks nearby..... The water was crystal clear and they had a great time swimming around the tropical fish which were in abundance.
Tonight Katrina and I got dressed and headed downstairs for the Friday night Mexican buffet in the hotel. It was ok, probably a bit disappointing, although the tortilla soup was fantastic. The girls were buggered again so opted for some in room dining. I'd love to know how many hot dogs Lily has eaten on this trip!!
The countdown is on now unfortunately only 3 more nights in Mexico and one in San Diego then it's back on the big bird home to the Gold Coast. We plan to take it really easy the next couple of days and just relax and enjoy the beach here in Medano and maybe take a another snorkelling trip
