Feria De Quito 2011

Between computer problems and the non-stop action of Feria De Quito 2011 which began on November 26 and ended yesterday December 6th, i've been a bit out of touch and unable to take a minute to make an update...The festival (one of emense pride to the people here) is unlike anything i've experience....We all know i've been through many Mardi Gras, in my year's in New Orleans, but this, this was different...Yes, it was a non-stop party, with dancing, music & excess, but, unlike Mardi Gras, it was more about pride, pride of Quito, pride of culture, pride of resistance, and pride of being an Ecuadorian.....Dancing, music, culture, is in no limited supply here, but is most enjoyed & most important, when shared with friend's & those willing to learn & embrace it....I wish i had understood & documented it better....From the night on the Chiva (pronounced Chiba) bus, which was essentially a rolling, music playing, dancing, party bus to the bull fights (happy to report no bull's were killed in the ring this year for the 1st time) to the parade's and pop up band's walking around, stirring the crowd's into a frenzy, it was a time i feel both honored & happy to have spent with these incredible people...I can say, however, that i am happy it is over & perhap's things can return to a bit more normal....It's hard to describe the level of intensity that has consumed this place since the start of the festival...Not something you can keep up for much longer, that's for sure....My plan's, or path, that i set out with, has been continuously altered & finally i'm ok with that...I'm going to continue to take things & trip's as they present themselve's...So....until the next time, love to all & talk to ya soon...
