Today, I drove 160 km's up the road to Mt Revelstoke NP. The highway also takes you through Glacier National Park. I think this was my least favourite day of driving, and was far from leisurely. The route seems to be heavily used by trucks and is mainly 2-lane, with occasional passing lanes. It's hard to relax and enjoy the scenery when you have a massive truck glued to the back of you!! The drive was very scenic and it was frustrating that there wasn't anywhere to stop when there was a good photo opportunity.
Moans aside, I really enjoyed visiting the Meadows in the sky parkway, just outside of Revelstoke. The road was only open up to the 10km point - it continues to 26km at the summit. But at 10km there was a snow flurry going on and the view was spectacular. The colours of the land were really beautiful. I suspect that in the summer months this is an amazing place to visit.
I then drove back towards Golden. I stopped at Rogers Pass Summit, in Glacier National Park, where it was snowing and there were inches of snow covering the ground. Unfortunately this meant that much of the view of surrounding mountains was obstructed. Unfortunately the Roger's pass discovery centre was closed, probably for the season. So I continued back to Golden, with one last stop at the Beaver's Valley picnic spot. It was a lovely little place for a photo stop and a rather inquisitive pretty little bird took in interest in what I was up to. When I arrived back in Golden I was glad to park the car up for the night and spend a night relalxing in the hotel.
