A day to visit new places or return to some favorites, the Shanghai Museum for example or if it should be a clear day maybe a ride to the top of Pearl Tower.
This day really ended up being my rest day. I had a few stomach issues that began the night before so thought it might be in my best interest not to test things too much, plus I was completely set to grab my book find a park and read and people watch. Sounds like fun to me, but not to be. The area around this hotel has changed so much in the last year. There's new construction at nearly every turn. Part of the park I visisted last year has been lost due to the refurbing of the buildings. There's dust everywhere, noise during nearly all the waking hours, and it is freakin' hot outside. I walk out of the hotel door and immediately being to prespire, within a very short time I'm dripping wet. So it didn't take me long to figure out the most comfortable place to read my book would be in the room. So much for the people watching but I could put my feet up and not be concerned with the approach of someone trying to sell guccie, guccie or roladex, (I'm trying to make it look like they say it...) or my favorite, those skates you can put over your shoes. Just what about my appearance makes them think I'm athletic enough for rolling along in my FLIP FLOPS.
Out for dinner again, this time Catherine took us to a cafeteria style location. The food was okay. Tonight the three of ate for about 175 RMB, again all the beer we cared to drink, and a nonalcoholic speciality drink or two for her daughter. Seriously, that's in the range of 20 bucks. The exchange is close to 7.5 RMB for one dollar.
