Early morning pick-up from our hotel and we were soon flying along the highway at the brisk pace of 70km/h. If that seems like it's not fast enough on perfectly paved highways, you are correct. Unfortunately some of the minibuses here beep loudly if drivers go over a certain speed limit. We had one of those minibuses. Such is life. 3 hours later we arrived in Pamukkale. Another lovely small little Turkish town nestled in the mountains. The highlight here is the giant calcium falls that loom over the town. I found some quick lunch after we got to our hotel then had a splash in the pool. After that I decided to make the trek up the falls and check them out.
This was an awesome experience. As you get to the bottom of the falls you have to take your shoes off because going barefoot is a lot more gentle on the rock than shoes
After I had explored the ruins for a good two hours I went back to the top of the "ice" falls. The sun was just starting to go down and I got tons of amazing pictures of the sunlight reflecting off all these different cascading pools of water. The illusion of ice waterfalls is really quite astounding and I loved it. The sunset was brilliant and I sat there for quite some time after the sun had gone down just enjoying the moment. The breeze and weather were perfect and it was not too hot. On the way down the falls I stopped again and sat down let the warm water run over my feet as the last purple light faded away over the mountain.
In hindsight, what an unexpectedly romantic post this was!
Dinner was great as I had a Turkish cheese pide and chocolate pancake for dessert.
On the road again tomorrow!
