From Kashan we continued on another few hours and stopped in at Qom, the center of theological study in Iran and it was teeming with mullahs. A very, very conservative city and at one point I thought Kate was going to go back to the car since she was seething with rage at how the women are treated. You can't go into the shrine in Qom as an unaccompanied woman, so the guide had to request permission from a "host" to meet us at the entrance to the shrine and escort us. Definitely an eye-opening experience.
