We got up at 6:00 a.m. at Carol's insistence-she wanted to make sure we made it to the plane on time, had a light breakfast, and took off for Frankfurt, 225 km away (140 miles). It was a good thing we left early since we hit heavy traffic on the autobahn. We don't know if it was an accident or what, but we went no more than 10 kph for about 30 kilometers. But we got there in plenty of time. We turned in the car and got to American Airlines even before they opened to check in our flight. Now you have to answer a whole list of security questions before you even check in! We went to the Admiral's Club and sat until time to board our flight and had some cheese and crackers for "lunch." The flight was very full and again Carol and I weren't sitting together. But it was a smooth flight, we had edible food, and time passed reasonably fast. I didn't even try to sleep since it was during the day. We were on time getting to Chicago, but it was raining and all the planes were delayed going out. Carol and I didn't get home (to our respective husbands and animals) until 11 p.m.-having been up 24 hours! We were tired, but it was a wonderful trip.
I am a professional writer, but I cannot seem to find the words to express my thanks to Denise and Daniel for all that they did for us. To provide full room and board, plus chauffeur, translation, genealogical research and travel guide services for two almost total strangers was such a blessing. We cannot thank them enough for making our trip so comfortable, enjoyable, successful, and memorable. Merci beaucoup, vielen Dank, and thanks a million
