We started out Friday by taking a lovely day trip to Milan. We got to the station, bought a map, and we were off! First we took the metro to go see the local Duomo. The duomo in Milan is particularly special because it is the sixth largest cathedral in all of Europe and the largest in Italy. It was completely different than any of the others I've seen (much more gothic), and definitely one of my favorites. Next we walked across the street to the Galleria, where we browsed through all the fancy stores. After sniffing enough Gucci and Prada to make us feel fancy, we walked over to La Scala. La Scala is the famous opera house in Milan, and while we sadly didn't get to see an opera, we still saw the theatre. It is HUGE and beautiful. The San Francisco Opera House looks like my garage compared to La Scala (although our garage is lovely). We also saw them setting up for Rigoletto, which they are putting on tomorrow night
Saturday, however, was very relaxing! I slept in, then we went to the Palazzo Medici Ricardi, which I pass on my way to school every day. It was pretty small but they had beautiful frescos. Afterwards, I did a little shopping. And once that exhausted me, we headed over to the Mercato Centrale to pick up a little food. The Mercato Centrale is the famous market in Florence, and was the inspiration for Eataly in New York!
I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving! Get excited for next week to read all about my trip to Prague!
