No it is not that bad as they say, you will be happy to know that I hit the road and walked through the town looking like a tourist and got nothing but smiles... the africaan people here have the most amazing white teeth - sponsorship by colgate I think...
Well after a 14 hour flight and getting to the airport with no pickup to the hostel I had to implement plan B which I did not have, so with a few winks and a smile to the airport information lady - she had organised a transfer and a new hostel to stay at - The ritz!! People seem nice.
The body clock is out of whack - woke up at 4am this morning wide awake - and listend to traveller number 4 snore is head off - so the old walkman has come in very handy...
Had to kill the day in Joburg so went to Soweto where it is the black township or the shanty town of the city. I would love to tell you that apharthide (can't spell) is not existant but it is - the whites have the cars, the jobs and the houses whilst the blacks serve the whites and live a life less ordinary - but the most amazing thing is that they are all happy! Went through a shanty town and into one of the shacks - here I am with a $900 camera and they live in a 2x2 tin shed. Left the owner of the house (who could not speak english) a bottle of water..... to say it made his families day is an understatement.
Food is great and beer is cheap which is always a good combination - heading upto Vic Falls tomorrow and will start my 36 days in a tent safari...can't wait!
"A wimba way, a wimba way.........in the jungle the quiet jungle..... Justin sneaks up on a lion and gets eaten..."
Hope everyone is well and safe - take care until next time. -ENTER WORD- that is where I would put the swalia word for goodbye but I cannot remember...
"Time is turning all our tomorrows into yesterdays... don't waste it"
