Whew - end of day one!

The kids are having a blast and are enjoying each others company.

Matty and John ventured into Port Elizabeth while the kids slept to pick up provisions and their local drivers' licenses. We were unsuccessful in getting popcorn for Paula's queasy stomach, but not from lack of trying. Felt like we were on a scavenger hunt, much to the amusement of the local shopkeepers and a couple of dudes in front of the main gas station (we're still not sure if they actually worked there or if they were just loitering around the pumps, nonetheless they assured us that they had no popcorn to offer).

We all then set out to the beach on Lower Bay by Susuki jeep with Matty at the wheel Morning view from the balcony taken by Matty

. He did his British heritage proud, quickly mastering the right-side steering, and assures us that he wasn't meaning to signal, rather he meant to flash the windshield wipers in approval at some approaching young women on the turn into town.

At the beach, Liam was the fearless one, running headlong into the sea with abandon, tripping, laughing, picking himself up.

Zoya was more cautious, not crazy about the ebb of the oncoming waves, preferring to ply her social skills with the local kids by handing them their sand toys.

We arrived home to a home cooked meal of calilou soup, yummy herbed chicken breasts, pumpkin mash, fresh veggies pasta salad and a nice bottle of French Merlot. Liam headed to bed early, with Zoya reminding everyone at the table to "shhh", since "Iamy nap". She has assumed a real big sister attitude to her cousin. She urged Dada to give her a "caker" (cracker) "peeeze!". When I gave her one, she pointed back at the bag and demanded "TWO!", then marched over and gave the other one to Liam. Very cute.

Babies are all asleep now, with everyone else lounging about reading, blogging and listening to tunes from home on Paula's iPod and the strong Atlantic winds that bluster outside in the inky darkness of the Caribbean night.
