The ship docked this morning 11am at Salaverry Peru. Salaverry is a port town 15km from Trujillo. This part of Peru is desert area. Sand and more sand everywhere. They have no rainfall in this area, but they still manage to grow many crops from an impressive irrigation scheme that comes from the snow melt of the Andes.

Today we are on a private tour to Trujillo and its surrounding districts. Firstly the Huacas Museum, then the Temple Ruins of the Moon and Sun. This archaeological site was the capital of the Mochica culture from century 1 AC until the ninth century. We then moved on to the Plaza de Armas in the centre of Trujillo. Beautiful Spanish Colonial buildings surround the Plaza. Churches, old Mansions restored and beautifully painted. We enjoyed a nice stroll around the Plaza looking at all the beautiful architecture and taking many photos. Next a seafood lunch at Huanchaco Beach, in Trujillo's resort area and a visit to see the famous reed boats. These boats are called the Horses of Totara, a raft like boat made from reeds and used for centuries for fishing. The locals ride them kneeling or astride like a horse to get out through the waves with their nets. From here on to the impressive ruins of Chan Chan. The largest pre Columbian city in America built by the Chimu people. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986. We walked throughout these walled cities, where they are still painstakingly digging and uncovering carved walls, alters, artifacts etc. what an awesome place.

A wonderful busy day. Tomorrow is a sea day, a chance to rest and ready ourselves for the next port, Manta Equador.
