Here in Puerto Viejo and in other beach places, "no shoes, no shirt, no service" does not apply. I was sitting in a little place called Bread and Chocolate yesterday waiting for my breakfast and there were 3 guys without shirts and at least 2 people without shoes. And the guy taking our orders is shirtless and barefoot. It's more common than you would think (in this country with the rough streets and unknowns on the ground) that people will walk without shoes on. I also saw a guy riding his bicycle without shoes on and I thought I was roughing it in my flip flops on the bike! I don't I really mind the "no shirt" though. I think if I had a place here, there would be a sign that read "no shoes, no shirts, BETTER service"!!!

The streets in this town are all dirt with major potholes and again, sidewalks are not common at all. And there doesn't seem to be anyone too worried about changing the road situation here, or in Costa Rica for that matter. I've seen some of the biggest potholes ever here in CR.

There are little geckos everywhere and also in my room. The other night I watched 2 of them play on the ceiling for hours. These little guys make such a loud noise!! One of them broke the rules yesterday. I sat down in my chair beside my hammock to relax a bit (yeah, like life isn't relaxing enough.. I know) and a gecko ran up the side of my arm. At first I thought it was a mosquito until I felt and saw him scurry away. I definitely let out a yelp and my neighbor had a good giggle. These critters are supposed to stay on the walls and celings -- he was not supposed to be crawling on ME!

I guess everyone is probably finishing up work today for the most part. Hopefully alot of you are already on Christmas break. I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday, wherever that may be. Eat so much that the top button has to be undone! For me, I think it's the beach again today.
