Next stop was Poas Volcano which is about 8870 ft or 2704 metres high so it was a little chilly up there. Just a side note... one of the gals who came on this tour today was wearing non other than 4" heels. The question "what are you -- NEW??" came to mind. Anyhow, we got up to the summit of the volcano and it was a beautiful, spectacular wall of WHITE!!! Couldn't see a darn thing! I didn't even know what or where I was supposed to be looking
Part 3 was the La Paz River waterfall. I actually stood behind the waterfall where you really got an appreciation for the power of the water. The ledge to walk on was a bit slippery and not very wide, so this was no time to lose my balance (and no, stilleto girl didn't venture over to behind the waterfall -- she actually didn't see Poas either cuz you had to walk for about 10 minutes). Then we stopped at this little restaurant that also had tons of hummingbirds. This is where I'm pretty sure I've lost it and should consider professional help. I must have taken 18 pictures of frickin' hummingbirds! What the heck?? Thank goodness for digital cameras. They were really something to see but the pictures I'm sure will not do them any justice. Also saw a tarantula, up close and way too personal
Next stop was lunch as the Selva Verde Lodge (Green Forest Lodge) where we saw poison dart frogs or also known as "blue jeans" frogs because their legs are blue (bodies are red). Our guide held one and said as long as you don't close him in, like in a fist, he won't attack. Again, thank goodness for a zoom lens and again, wasn´t interested in holding him.
Final stop of the day was for a float on the Sarapiqui River where we saw some huge iguanas, lots of howler monkeys, a few Jesus Christ lizzards and a couple of cayman crocs. It was smoking hot down here on the river compared to having goosebumps up at the volcano! Two extremes today (yeah, I know... poor me!).
