Wednesday, February 14 Wellington to National Park Village
We hate to tear ourselves away from the friendly folks and the lovely bay views of Moana Lodge, but we must be on our way north. Today is a drive through agricultural and grazing lands. We notice that there are more fruit and vegetable stands here on the North Island. The sheep and lambs still entice us to stop now and then to take a closer look. Along the way, we just have to stop for pictures of an old 1945 airplane café with a unique paint job. It is covered in chocolate chip cookies. Has been in this location since 1986, but just got the new paint job in 2000. Soon, one of the 3 volcanoes in this area, Mt Ruapehu, comes into view. The 3 volcanoes are part of Tongariro National Park. The Pukenui Lodge in National Park Village is where we are staying for 2 nights. PS Happy 30th Birthday AARON.
