Dunedin to Oamaru

Tuesday, February 6 Dundein to Oamaru
Before leaving Dunedin, we drive up to Signal Hill for the views of the city, bay and Otago Peninsula. On our way north up the coast, a popular stop is at the Moeraki Boulders. These boulders, some as big as 13 feet across, sit on the beach, after being washed down from the cliffs. Our destination today is the coastal town of Oamaru where we stay at the Empire Hotel. Oamaru boasts many buildings built using the local limestone around the turn of the century. Buildings are elaborately carved, many with fancy columns. More thumbnails ...
