Saturday January 27 Te Anau to Milford Sound
Today we drive the famous Milford Sound Road. This glacier carved valley is absolutely stunning in the sparkling sun. The tall vertical cliffs line the road and snow capped mountains are visible above. Words cannot describe the beauty-you will have to look at the pictures! We board the Mitre Peak Cruise Boat for a late afternoon cruise of the Milford Sound. This is a popular place with the tourists. There are waterfalls and wildlife to see on the cruise. The only lodging in this remote area is the Milford Sound Lodge. Their generator is off from 11 pm to 6:45 am. More thumbnails ...

What a waterfall! I think one of the things that is so pretty about New Zealand (from what I'm seeing) is how the cliffs and peaks just seem to sprout up from the water.
