Friday, Jan 12 Raglan to New Plymouth
A mostly rainy day as we drive to Hamilton to visit their famous gardens. This extensive park includes Chinese & Italian themed gardens as well as a rose garden. At the Kiwi House in Otorohanga, we view two nocturnal kiwi birds eating in their dark setting. An amazing drive through abundant fern gorges takes us to the coastal city of New Plymouth. We see so many purple and white agapanthus flowers alongside the road-is this the national flower? Second to the agapanthus is the hydranchula flowers in abundance. We are staying at the Shoestring Hostel in Plymouth for 3 nights. It is fun to talk to other guests as we all prepare our meals in the kitchen.

Big Lizard! (reply) Jan 16, 2007 11:20 EST by missalee
That was quite a close up of that lizard! Is it safe to assume that Dad took that picture? The gardens look very pretty.
