We left Sam's Guardino on our way south to 'Zebra River Lodge'. It was a long drive but the scenery was amazing as it took us through mountains. We stopped at Solitaire the only main 'town' on the way and I say that loosely. It was really only a filling station, cafe and shop. It just appeared to be such a large dot on the map! It has been the location for many movies and adverts.

Zebra River Lodge is run by a lovely couple called Rob and Marianne and it is a most amazing place to stay. When we arrived there was a very deserved 'welcome drink' and we were shown to our lovely semi-circular stone room. The scenery was out of this world and the view as we lay in bed and looked from our window, absolutely lovely. Rob and Marianne have made an oasis of colour with beautiful bougainvillea and other plants that bring birds from far and wide. The buildings themselves are made from stone and blend in with their natural surroundings Another Sunset

There are only a few rooms so you get to know the other guests really well. The food is all home-cooked and considering Windhoek is 4 hours away you cannot believe the quality food they can prepare. Good news is that the brewery do deliver so there is never a worry of the place running dry. When we arrived Rob was just in the process of re-doing the pool and it sounded excellent so I'm sure it is up and running by now.

Evening meal gives you a chance to meet the other guests. We met people from Pennsylvania, Belgium, South Africa, England and France. It is all very relaxed with lots of books on Namibia to look at until it is time to eat. The snake book was particularly scary but Marianne said that she had a blister from a spider bite on a toe once and other than that nothing in all the time they had been there. No snakes hiding under every rock then!
