In the morning we had a hot shower outdoors which despite the bitterness of the morning was absolutely fantastic. We decided to do the other trail and saw more zebra and eland. It was nice to be able to walk around rather than watch everything from your car. Then it was time to leave Motsentsela and on to Ghanzi. The road from Maun to Ghanzi has to be one of the most boring rides and incredibly straight and unfortunately there is nothing to see. Tautona Lodge was disappointing after the other places we had stayed. The rooms were dank and cave like and the whole place resembled a Harvester Inn from home. Another downer on the day was that the car had now developed a dreadful oil leak and we were worried we might not make it back to Windhoek after all. We bought some spare oil in Ghanzi so all we could do was keep filling it up and hope.
There seemed hardly anyone at the lodge so we decided to drive the short distance to the waterhole at the campsite adjacent to the lodge. There was no game so the boys chucked a rugby ball around for an hour or so and it was just nice to stretch our legs.
Dinner was at seven and consisted of a buffet of porridge, maize potatoes, sweet potatoes, chicken, lamb and vegetables. We appeared to be the only ones and wondered where all the other guests were as there was loads of food prepared. We had a few drinks and began to feel that it was very much the end of the holiday. Thoughts of work and exam results came flooding into my mind , the first time since the holiday had begun .
We went back to our rooms watched some TV and then had an early night. Surprisingly it was the roar of lions in the distance that woke us, a reminder that we were still in Africa although Tautona Lodge did not feel like it!
