First, search for any major music events in Israel to see what's happening and where.

I strike out finding anything that will be "on" during our dates, so I post on the TripAdvisor Israel Forum (http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g293977-i1733-Israel.html), my go-to place for navigating resources and local knowledge.  The destination experts advise that it’s too early for individual concerts or clubs to publicize.  We’ll need to be patient.  I can’t go a day without eating.  I can’t imagine going to Israel without the experience of an Israeli singer in a live concert!  We put this “on hold” and continue with our itinerary planning.

Fast forward eights weeks prior to our departure.   Our best bet for a performance by an Israeli singer is Tel Aviv with its vibrant club scene and many concert halls. Shoshi, a destination expert on TripAdvisor, uses her superior tactical skills, local knowledge and accesses Hebrew websites.  She finds the White City Music Festival of international performers so there isn’t much else going on during our days in Tel Aviv.  Shoshi  struck gold in finding Shlomi Shabbat performing at the Caesarea Ampitheatre on a date when we are staying at nearby Zichron Ya’acov. It fits into our itinerary. Check.  A popular Israeli singer. Check.  A postcard scene from ancient Israel.  Triple check and perfect!  I so appreciate Shoshana’s help to a perfect stranger half a world away.

Now, another lesson learned.  Some event websites only accept credit cards from Israel.  It took the helping hand of five people to get us tickets!    Our warm grateful thanks to:

-      Shoshana for the initial find and the website to purchase tickets: http://ticketcenter.co.il/

Avi, Harvey’s Israeli tennis coach who helped navigate the Hebrew only website when Harvey didn’t understand the Hebrew error messages about the credit card

Esther at the Samadar Inn at Zichron Ya’acov where we will be staying who tried to find us a ticket agency that will accept a U.S. credit card for this concert

Bella, Avi’s mother in Israel,  who used her credit card to purchase the tickets for us.  We will reimburse Bella when we enjoy Shabbat dinner at her home in Rehovot and we’ll have a party the next night at the concert where three family members will be joining us!

Shmuel of The Ticket Center (http://ticketcenter.co.il/)  who kept the Shlomi Shabbat tickets on hold for us until we successfully worked out a way to get him the funds.

Isn’t it amazing how people helped us to make this happen?
