The Rio Hermoso Hotel is located just off the Seven Lakes Route, about 25 minutes south of San Martin de los Andes, on Route 63. It is a gem, a boutique hotel ideal for anyone who enjoys nature and creature comforts with personal service! It was our favorite hotel in Argentina.
From the moment we turned into the driveway leading to the Rio Hermoso Hotel, you get the feel of a personal home. With only six guestrooms, the property does look like a private estate. It is located on a large piece of property, facing the Rio Hermoso (Hermoso River). Knowing that there are no other accommodations or buildings in the area, that it is situated all by itself on the river, gave us this feeling of psychological as well as physical space
No matter where you are, you will feel surrounded by nature. The great room has big cushy couches next to the fireplace, a bar, and a dining area. The large picture windows in the great room as well as the bedrooms, ensure that the outside will always be with you, even when you are inside! Soak in the dynamite views of the river and the mountain face just beyond. The light on the mountain, the trees and the river change throughout the day inviting you to gaze and enjoy the beauty!
The staff of Rio Hermoso know how to be of service, but not intrusive. They are friendly, warm and helpful. Whether it was accommodating a special dietary requirement, preparing a lunch or dinner that was not on the menu, keeping the fire going in the fireplace, bringing snacks and drinks, they were there for us. When we went to dinner in San Martin de los Andes one night and returned around 1 AM, there was someone at the front door welcoming us back! There is no set time for meals and you eat at the times you like. The quality of the food as well as the preparation and presentation is excellent.
There is a casual elegance in the luxury accommodations
The Rio Hermoso Hotel is well located in the southern end of Lanin National Park in the Lake District. The staff can describe a variety of activities in the area: kayaking, canoeing, trekking, mountain biking, flyfishing, birdwatching, horseback riding, rafting, getting in contact with the Mapuche community and learn another culture's way of life (there are also winter activities). If you want a private guide, that can be arranged.
Actually, you don't have to go very far. We enjoyed our daily walks along the paths along the Rio Hermoso on the hotel property! If you are into flyfishing, just walk out the door!
We found lots of perches to sit, read or have a casual snack: on the patio outside the great room, on the chairs on the lawn facing the river, in our room, on our terrace or on the couches by the fireplace. This is a quiet place, a place to rejuvenate. It is unbelievably romantic!
Staying at the Rio Hermoso Hotel is a real treat and a rare find
