Where I stayed
Monday, December 22nd
This is our last full day in Argentina where we will not have any travel from one place to another, either by car or air. Our concept for the day is to go to a beautiful spot on the nearby Lago Meliquina, enjoy the sun and warmer weather, listen to the waves and then return to the Rio Hermoso Hotel and enjoy its beautiful location next to the river later in the day. There really is no need to drive further - we have just what we want right here!
Before we leave, we speak to Enrique and request lomo or tenderloin for dinner at 9 PM. We expect that it will be excellent here and we look forward to a special dinner to celebrate our rejuvenating sojourn at Rio Hermoso!
We return to the same general area on Lago Meliquina. One other couple is on the beach; the man is flyfishing and the woman is sitting and reading in a collapsible chair on the beach. We find a spot under a large tree near the water and bring out our books. Today's passage highlight from Miraculous Living:
"Without the ability to let go of past mistakes and turn wrongs into rights, you would find it impossible to reside in this world. At the completion of this day, notice if you are carrying mental and emotional weights filled with misplaced judgments, misguided communication, false responses, failed attempts, broken promises, shattered expectations, or any other mistakes for which you blame yourself or others. Notice how heavy and tense your body feels just by thinking about them. Now acknowledge that these mistakes were placed in your path in order to assist you in growing to the next stage of your spiritual development. Along with these errors comes the ability to return. Turn the wrongs into rights in your imagination. Travel through the dynamics of this day with a right-making state of mind. Then take this opportunity to return to your true nature, to the purpose for which you were born - to carry the light of God. Be aware that in letting go of mistakes you have cleared the path for your spirit to soar to the upper realms and carry you into the center of miraculous, Divine happenings."
Two large families arrive and announce themselves with lots of commotion
We rest a bit on our terrace. We go from one beautiful spot to another! I read an interesting passage:
"Discipline yourself to empty, open and release old limiting patterns, clinging thoughts, and attachments to having things go your way....the best self-discipline is the spiritual skill and practice of nothingness". I make a note to myself to consider adding this as an intention for 2009.
After lunch, Carlos and the Vanessa come over to say that they are leaving and will not be here tomorrow. We thank them both, give them hugs and kisses, and holiday greetings - Feliz Navidad and muchas gracias para todo! They have been so gracious in preparing foods that we like, helping us with our Spanish, providing excellent service, and having pleasant conversation that we are grateful to have met them and we say so
We walk the grounds one last time. And now an interesting event! Just as we are talking about how many times we have walked this path by the river and that we have not seen a trout, we look at the water and then pop - blending in with the rocks, well disguised, standing still in the current is a TROUT! It is as if we saw it just as the idea of it comes into our minds! The realization is just there, we laugh. The trout have been under our noses all week and we didn't see any? We see this one! Is it real? It's a Kabbalah moment. Unfortunately I do not have a camera with us, so it is only on the screen of our minds!
My heart sings here! I have said this so many times at Rio Hermoso, and I now say it again! Rio Hermosos has provided the setting for the rest and rejuvenation that we both needed.
I am on the terrace watching the end of the day and the light change on the landscape. I jot down some notes of things I want to do this coming year. The light is changing every few moments and I stop this personal reflection to just gaze at the beauty before me. I feel the light breeze and the cooler temperature. I listen to the sound of the river
We have a romantic dinner of a wonderful tenderloin steak, prepared by our chef, Gimenee. After enjoying one full bottle of wine we strike up a conversation with the other couple who are also guests this evening. We immediately hit it off with them, they are an Israeli couple living in London. After some lively laughing and joking, we make it back to our room. We turn off the lights and end our last day at the Rio Hermoso Hotel!
Our Rio Hermoso hotel review is at the end of the journal entries for the Lake District.
