Yep, back in Nicaragua, on my way to Belize and Mexico and maybe later the USA and Canada... First, I want to see and do some things in Nica I didn't do because of my scorpion bite or because of no time... I plan to stay here on the island for a week or so before I go back to Leon.
That is if I can stay away from the scorpions...
The first time Emma and I visited Ometepe, we stayed at Altegracia, on the concepcion side of the island. This time I choose for the Madera side at the tiny village of Merida. I stay at the 'Hacienda Merida', a beautiful lakeside farm, now a hostel with nice dorms. For a little extra, guests can use bicycles and kayaks, and the food is excellent and very cheap.
There are plenty of things to do here, even without TV, pubs, or cinema's! I visit the waterfall, climb the volcano (Concepcion that is), kayak to Monkey island, cycle around the half island, visit the local school...
Nicaragua really became a little bit my favorite destination during my travel and I really plan to come back here sooner or later.(let's hope sooner)
Unfortunatly, there is Managua...
This ugly city, by far the ugliest in Central America, with it's aggressive taxi drivers, and it's desolate city center, can not be avoided however...
Some people told me they actually like Managua, some people even live there out of free will... so maybe I judge too soon... Maybe somebody can sent me a different opinion? Be welcome to send me a mail!
