Anyway, I can recommend a visit to Puerto Viejo and Cahuita to everybody, so please do not listen to the Lonely Planet (don't buy it would be better!), the province of Limon, and more specific, Talamanca from Cahuita to Manzanillo is very safe to visit!!
Looking at maps is a typical habit of me and in so doing I discovered that it's possible to hike from the Atlantic (Carribean) to the Pacific coast. From the Indian reservation of Bri-Bri over the mighty Talamanca mountains to Buenos Aires (not the one in Argentina!) would take you about a week to ten days, but as I made inquiries people told me that it's quite impossible without a Indian guide. So the thing is, it costs about 450 $ per group of minimum three, and this includes only the guide. So you have to carry your own tent, food and water for ten days PLUS all the equipment of the guide who carries nothing because he has to concentrate on the trail and his machete... For me, this seems to be like a dream vacation and I'm looking for two other fools who want to share the costs and the experience...so if you think you're crazy enough mail me!
