The weather has not dampened our enjoyment. On Friday night we had our first experience of surf school hospiality. Surf schools offer dinner and drinks each evening at a reasonable price, often with entertainment, and have a free pick-up service. We called, a lovely chap callled Dave turned up in his minibus and we were dropped at the door. The food was excellent and was eaten whilst enjoying the magnificent views over the ocean. Our lucky numbers were not called in the meat raffle, but we had a great night
On Saturday we headed to Eumundi described in Lonely Planet as "quaint highland village with a quirky New Age vibe". Cath wanted to show us the market which was a challenge for us non-shoppers, however, the stuff being sold here was so different that we easily whiled away a few hours. We also discovered a fabulour musician called Matt James who combines modern musical vibes with tribal groove and creates an amazing sound (www.mattjames.com.au).
We managed to find some gaps in the cloud to enjoy the amazing surf beaches here. We watched the life guards training which was fascinating. They are all volunteers but they train hard and watching them bounce the life raft over huge waves and grab people out of the sea was thrilling. We visited Mooloolaba on Sunday and were lucky enough to catch the first Mooloolaba Mile Ocean Swim, part of the Queensland Open Swim Series. It's in the diary for a future visit, although I don't think I can match the winner a young man called George O'Brian who did it in 16 minutes.
We will be home in less than a week which will be very strange. Really looking forward to seeing the family and must say we will be relieved to have a greater selection of clothing.
